On the 20th of December, at the initiative of the Senegalese representative of the Féderation des Associacions Casamançaises de l’Éxterieur (FACE) Dr. Malick Sane, the Secretary of Deltamed Dr. Sergio Grego, flanked by the President of FACE Mamadou Lamine Diedhiou, met by videoconference with the General Director of SODAGRI, Dr. Alpha Bocar Baldè, flanked by the Regional Director Dr. Mamadou Ndiaye. SODAGRI is an agency dependent on the Senegalese Ministry of Agriculture that deals with the promotion and improvement of agricultural practices, with particular reference to the management of the dams that provide valuable irrigation water to vast regions of Senegal.

The meeting, which was also attended by Prof. Bamol Sow, from the Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor, focused on the situation of the two anti-salt dams of Affiniam and Gnandouma with the aim of clarifying the effectiveness and possible critical aspects of the two structures in relation to the mitigation of salt intrusion in the areas under their jurisdiction.

All those present agreed on the need for constant dialogue between the entities involved, SODAGRI, Assane Seck University, Regional and Municipal Councils and Deltamed in order to initiate an exchange of data that would allow for a precise overview of the situation, with a focus on targeted interventions according to the methods already experimented by Deltamed in this and other areas visited during technical missions in recent years.

A further update meeting is scheduled for this January.
