On 5 March 2026, at the prestigious headquarters of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti at Palazzo Loredan in Venice, the Associazione DeltaMed took part in the roundtable of the event “WATER – Science and Governance”, organised by the Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC).
The initiative provided an important opportunity for dialogue among the scientific community, institutions and stakeholders involved in water management, highlighting the Mediterranean as a key laboratory for best practices in climate change adaptation.
In this context, DeltaMed brought to the discussion the experience developed by its members in managing deltaic territories, wetlands and lagoon environments, ecosystems that are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts. These areas are increasingly exposed to water stress, anthropogenic pressures and sea-level rise, making integrated approaches and shared adaptation strategies ever more necessary.
The debate highlighted how the experiences developed in DeltaMed member territories—particularly in integrated water management, environmental monitoring and climate adaptation strategies—can represent concrete and transferable models for other Euro-Mediterranean contexts, strengthening cooperation among territories facing similar challenges.
The roundtable featured prominent representatives from the scientific and institutional communities, including Prof. Andrea Rinaldo, winner of the Stockholm Water Prize 2023, and Prof. Giulio Boccaletti, Scientific Director of the CMCC, contributing to a high-level discussion on water governance and climate adaptation in the Mediterranean.
